There are many different computer systems that could be used, however all of these have different features, costs etc. A PC has many different features in comparison to a Mac. For example security, many people use PC’s which have Windows installed, because of this the computer is therefore more vulnerable to security threats in comparison to Macs. Macs are much less vulnerable to viruses which would be much safer if being used by a company.

Price is another important aspect when it comes to choosing between a PC and a Mac. Between the two, the PC is much cheaper than the Mac. However many people think that the money spent on the Mac is worth it due to the fact there are no issues with security etc. In a big company though the cost of several Macs would be relatively high, so PC’s would be cheaper to buy. In the long run though I do believe that Macs are better in terms of saving money, as they need less repairs etc. as they are much more reliable that PC’s.

There is a big difference when it comes to software on the two computer systems. With the PC, there are loads of different programmes and software that can be installed. However with the Mac there is a limited amount of software that can be installed, but with the aid of Boot camp many Windows programmes can still be installed. This means that Macs could still be used within the company, as they can perform the same job as the PC.

The operating systems on both computer systems are again different. The Macs operating system is much more stable than the PC, although many people do not like the layout of this operating system. The PC’s operating system is less stable, this is because many PC manufacturers still place pre-installed software onto these computers which offers no advantage to the user.

All in all I believe that for a company, the better option of computer system to use would be the Apple Mac. This is because in general it is a much better/reliable computer e.g. security. Despite the fact that the cost is more, the Mac is worth the money as the operating systems are much better than that of PC’s.

Using the computer system provided, carry out the following routine maintenance: • Create a file structure under user as follows A folder labelled with your name and within this folder create 3 folders labelled Home, Work and Study • Configure the operating system to perform the following: • back-up procedures • automatic scheduling and deletion of unwanted data • archiving • defragmentation • deleting temporary files • Cleaning keyboard, mouse, display screen of the computer provided • replacing consumables printer paper in the printer provided • replacing the damaged mouse Rosey manages to all of the above in a quick and efficient manner. She showed no signs of struggling with any of the above criteria.

How the activity meets the requirements of the assessment and grading criteria, including how and where the activity took place
A room was set up where Rosey went in and set up the computer system. This was under supervision. Rosey was in IV6, and did most of these tasks through the use of the control panel. She cleaned the keyboard, mouse and screen of the computer and was also able to change the consumables printer paper. All of these tasks were completed in a quick and efficient manner.

On the computer system provided Rosey changed the icon size to large. She did this by enlarging the image. Rosey also changed the font size to large on the computer system provided with ease. The background colour was also changed to red, Rosey was again capable of doing this.

After making a successful start in your role as an IT trainer for the IT Support Department of RS Components, you have been have been asked to prepare training material of a more advanced and practical kind. Before you are allowed to do this you are required to prove your abilities in hardware and software upgrades. Assessment and grading criteria
P5 set up a standalone computer system, installing hardware and software components [SM3] For P5, learners must install at least one hardware and one software component in a stand-alone system. This is best evidenced with a witness statement or observation record and screen shots. Learners must use suitable safety equipment/tools and pay due regard to health and safety issues.
How the activity meets the requirements of the assessment and grading criteria, including how and where the activity took place
Rosey connected the monitor to the computer, as well as the keyboard and mouse by simply looking at the appropriate ports to plug the peripherals in. Rosey was able to show other students in the group where the graphics card is installed. Rosey then moved onto the laptop in the room and installed MS Office 2003 by opening the setup file, as well as the security essentials. A user account was already present on the computer, however Rosey displayed a good knowledge of how to complete this task, and managed to configure the system software herself.
